City of Salem Budget Committee Meeting

A message from Jim Scheppke about this meeting: The City Council has not acted to appropriate the $300,000 requested by Latinos Unidos Siempre to provide needed assistance to ICE-affected families. I have asked some of my friends on the Budget Committee to make a motion at this meeting to do that. I’m not sure they will, but I am hoping. If we had a big turnout asking for this in the Public Comment period of this meeting it would help. I fear we are going to see an escalation of ICE abductions in Salem after the first of the year. The message: Hillsboro, Washington County and Woodburn have all appropriated funds to assist ICE-affected families. Why not Salem? We have an $8m budget surplus projected for the end of this year.
